Proposals
First and foremost, Department of Safety is a building. It is inside, and occasionally outside this building that what we do takes shape and forms our project.
Do you want to collaborate with us? Do you want to change the shape and history of Department of Safety? Are you interested in this process?
Department of Safety is an Artist Run Center. We do not commission artists. We don’t make “open calls” for artists. We even rarely solicit artists. This is why we are interested in the proposal process. We have an open application protocol for visual proposals.
Department of Safety has little to no resources to realize projects of large scope. Nevertheless, we are interested in fantasy as much as the real (thanks you, 2002). If your ideas are lofty, do not hesitate. Things can happen.
It is not necessary to limit your proposal to only involve the gallery project space. If your project is better realized in another area of the building, tell us about it. We want to make the process and the product “successful.”
Department of Safety has core values that include keeping things fresh, inspiring through change. This temporal quality must be understood. We are very interested in context.
Be it a curated show, a performance, your own exhibition in the gallery, a mural, a workshop, a public sculpture, a performance piece where you wash dishes; We are interested in your ideas, no matter what medium.
Contact us. Explain your idea.
