Location

The Department of Safety is located in sunny Anacortes, Washington (also known as the “gateway” to the popular San Juan Islands), 1 hour north of Seattle and 1.5 hours south of Vancouver, BC. We are surrounded by beautiful lakes, mountains, oceans, islands, Orca whales, and publicly-employed “safety personnel.”

The D.o.S. structure itself is conveniently positioned to give easy and efficient access to all that Anacortes has to offer. Budding travelers/indie rockers/capitalists/moms such as yourself and your friends/family will find the local area stocked with plentiful goods ready for purchase and consumption. Our location at the intersection of Commercial and the Hwy 20 spur (map) is within walking distance of uptown, downtown, midtown, the docks, the marina, and The Business. 7-11 is just across the street for all of your late-night snacking or beverage needs.

We encourage visitors to experience a thorough exploration of Fidalgo Island and the surrounding geography; however, Fireman Phil wishes to caution travelers about some possible “dangers” of Anacortes-based adventures.

“Although Anacortes is usually a ‘safe’ and ‘comfortable’ place for travelers, you should be aware of situations in which certain hazardous behaviors can result in unintended or painful consequences. For instance, jumping off of the tall rocky cliffs at Whistle Lake can be an exhilarating rush, but it can also lead to injuries and embarrassment. Also, a make-out session on Cap Sante or on the roof of the D.o.S. is often pleasureful and free from guilt, but go too far and you could end up with an uncomfortable scar or lesion.”

Right on, Fireman Phil! It’s nice to know that Safety is the primary focus of the good people at the D.o.S.
