Who Can Apply?

Emerging artists practicing in any media are encouraged to apply. The Department of Safety will do whatever feasibly possible to accommodate the chosen artists with their needs for a successful residency practice.

When Are Applications Due?

Spring 2009 (Feb 15 – May 15 ) Due Oct 1, 2008
Summer 2009 (June 1 – Sept 1) Due Jan 15, 2009
Fall 2008 (Sept 15 – Dec 15) Due May 15, 2008

How Do I Apply?

Please submit a letter of intent stating the work you plan on doing during your stay at the DoS (digital and hard copy please), a portfolio (on cd, dvd, or web (we hate slide portfolios)), and CV (Curriculum Vitae, aka Resume.) (Please also submit a digital version of this). Specify your media of choice (paint, sound, installation, digital media, social sculpture, writing, “new” etc.) and include any contact information we will need to get in touch with you. Also, inform the committee of which residency time-period you are interested in applying for. If you have a history with the Department of Safety, please include a brief statement for our refrigerator door about that. Please also include a non-bouncing check for $10, payable to “Department of Safety” to help directly subsidize the D.o.S. AIR program.
